Deschutes Brewery: Bond Series - Hop in the Dark

"Can an IPA be black? Semantics aside, this noir version adds deep roasted malts to alter the hue and slightly smooth the edges. What emerges is something deeper, less orthodox, and all its own.

“We’ve brewed 22 batches of this beer at both our Bend and Portland pubs, experimenting on our customers as we perfected the recipe,” said Brewmaster Larry Sidor. “This beer has subtle coffee undertones born from a blend of oats with dark, Munich and crystal malts. Classic IPA flavors and aromas are due to courageous additions of Cascade, Citra and Centennial hops.”

Take the plunge – a hop, if you will – into this new Cascadian Dark Ale. Many may never even try to swim for shore."

Deschutes Brewery: Green Lake Organic

"Environmental pedigree aside, Green Lakes Organic Ale is a finely balanced beer with a mellow malt profile and subtle hop leading edge. On the ingredient roster: five types of 100% organic malted barleys and a complementary dose of Liberty and Sterling hops. It’s a profoundly satisfying, easy-drinking beer.

What’s more, no mere enviro wink and nod, Green Lakes Organic Ale is a true ode to Mother Earth. Both product and process have been carefully considered. Deschutes’s brewhouses are organically certified by Oregon Tilth. And while all malts are organic, the hops story is a less told eco-tale. A full 80% Salmon-Safe, they’re grown so that surrounding streams are shaded, cool and run-off free, allowing migrating salmon to flourish.

Enjoy in good taste, and conscience."

Deschutes Brewery: Inversion IPA

"Inversion’s trio of American hops deliver an over-the-top nose with hints of orange and grapefruit. Then we toss in seven days of dry-hopping for good measure. Because we can.

No mere hop sledgehammer, Inversion is a careful fusion. Crystal and Carastan malts woven throughout provide for a surprisingly soft, caramel complexity for an 80-IBU IPA.

Named for a local weather phenomenon where clouds hug the base of the mountain only to reveal clear skies further up, it can turn a beer drinker’s IPA preconceptions upside down as well."

Aspall Cyder: Perronelle's Blush

"A twist on the classic Kir Royale – champagne and crème de cassis replaced by cyder and crème de mure (blackberry liquer). We named this after our grandmother Perronelle and her rosy red cheeks.

The colour is deep blush suggestive of dark summer fruit, with a rich appearance due to the viscosity of the Creme de Mure. There is a subtle blackberry aroma with a hint of traditional cyder apple. Deceptively smooth with a silky but refreshing palate, Blush offers a perfect blend of sweetness and acidity. It has a lovely mouthfeel and a lingering aftertaste of berries.

Superb as an aperitif – as an alternative to pink sparkling wines like Rose Champagne, Perronelle’s Blush is also an occasion drink – garden parties or balmy summer evenings after a hard day’s work. Particularly good with smoked salmon and apple balsamic vinegar dressing and desserts such as tarte au citron or gooseberry crumble with fresh cream."

Aspall Cyder: Dry Premier Cru

"Our flagship cyder and the first of the re-launched range to go to market in 2000. Premier Cru has been awarded World's Best Cider and World's Best Dry Cider in the 2008 World Cider Awards run by Beers of The World Magazine. It was described by the judges as "an elegant and well bred dry cider, with a soft fragrant nose and enough earthy apple notes to keep its feet on the ground"

Premier Cru has also scooped first prize in the Quality Drink Awards 2008, receiving high praise from the judges who described it as the "gewurtztraminer" of the cider world.

Of mid straw-gold colour with a clean, light aroma of dessert apples, Premier Cru is dry, round and creamy on the palate with a good acid balance, pleasant soft tannins and an elegant, long finish.

A champagne taste that embodies the essence of an orchard, it has enticed an admiring audience who describe it as ‘pale, subtle and crisp, with a fresh aroma of English apples.’

An ideal partner for charcuterie and mild cheeses. Premier Cru also provides a very harmonious partnership with spicy foods, particularly curry."
